A Kenyan student was shot and killed in Baltimore, Maryland, in the US, in what the family termed a “brutal assassination”.
Joram Shijenje, 34, who hails from Liranda village in Kakamega, was shot in an apartment complex parking lot in Essex at 1am on Tuesday, as he got out of his vehicle from work.
The motive of the killing was not immediately established.
Speaking to The Standard on telephone from Baltimore, Mr Victor Savani Elolo, a relative, said the news shocked them.
Elolo said the family believed their son, a student at the Community College of Baltimore, who also did three jobs, was assassinated because he was shot from behind as he was getting out of his car.
“We suspect he was assassinated because according to the police, after being shot in the back, the killer never took anything from him or his car. There was also no indication of a struggle,” he said.
Baltimore County Police, said Shijenje was dead by the time authorities got to the scene. Witnesses who heard the shots called the police.
By the time of going to Press, no suspect had been arrested and the Baltimore County police had issued an information hotline to track down the killers.
