Former MP charged with promoting ethnic clashes

Immediate former Saboti Mp Davies Nakitare was finally arraigned in a Kitale court Tuesday to answer to charges of promoting war-like activities.
Nakitare who appeared before Kitale magistrate Wilbroda Juma was also charged with promoting ethnic clashes in Trans Nzoia district.
Nakitare denied the charges saying he had been out of the country since December 30 last year.
Nakitare had earlier presented himself before a Nairobi court following allegations that over 200 youths suspected of undergoing militia training were arrested at his farm.
He was released on a bond of 700,000 shillings with a surety of similar amount.
The case against him will be mentioned on April 2 and hearing set for May 14.
Elsewhere three people were Tuesday charged with the murder of the late Embakasi MP Mellitus Mugabe Were.
James Omondi Odera alias Castro, Wycliffe Walimbwa Simiyu alias Zimbo and Paul Otieno Oman alias Baba were arraigned before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Gilbert Mutembei.
The three were charged with robbing the late legislator cash and property valued at 22 000 shillings including a cell phone and 2 000 shillings in cash.
They were also charged with using violence later or immediately after the robbery leading to the death of Were.
They denied committing the offence on the January 29 at Woodley Estate in Nairobi.
During the proceedings their lawyer Cliff Ombeta applied for medical checkup for the three suspects.
The court had no objection to the application.
The case will be heard on the April 1 this year.
