Former President Moi has said only Kenyans can shape the destiny of the country.
He warned that when tribalism takes root, the future of the country becomes bleak.
Speaking during the prize giving ceremony at Kabarak High School on Saturday, Moi said ethnicity could disintegrate the country.
Moi said he opposed multiparty politics in the early 1990s because of its possible negative consequences.
“I told people that moving to multiparty politics without care would be a recipe for chaos,” he said.
Moi, who promised to comment on the current political developments in the country, said only an independent civil service could bring progress. He said a united country could not be achieved under a partisan civil service. At the same time the former Head of State said the education sector should not suffer because of mistakes by a few individuals.
He said students who have worked hard must be awarded what they deserve.
“Fairness should be done in the examinations because this is what shapes the students’ future,” he said.
