Twelve bandits were killed Thursday evening at Chari-Ache Garag area in North Horr Location in Chalbi District after they ambushed a convoy of four vehicles carrying security personnel.
Marsabit OCPD Francis Sang sustained bullet wounds during a fierce exchange of gunfire that ensued between the bandits and the security personnel.
Speaking from his hospital bed where he is recuperating, Sang said the bandits, armed with modern weapons, ambushed them at Baragoi Junction.
The OCPD said the bandits, believed to be from Longalayani area had been planning to attack residents near Ganas Trading Center.
North Horr MP Chachu Ganya is now appealing to the government to beef up security in the region to stem recurrent attacks in the District.
