The police have dismissed media reports alleging their involvement in the killing of two members of the outlawed Mungiki sect members, Charles Ndung’u Wagacha and Naftali Irungu last Monday.
In a press statement, Police Spokesman Eric Kiraithe says investigations have been launched into the murders, adding that several clues are being pursued.
On the fateful day police officers from Lari Police Station visited the scene of crime and discovered several bullet holes on the car, while its occupants had multiple gunshot wounds.
A subsequent police search yielded seven spent cartridges.
Police say eyewitness accounts confirmed that the vehicle had landed in a ditch when a gang of five people alighted from two other cars, fired several times at the victims, stole a parcel from the victims’ car before driving off.
Kiraithe says the investigations now seek to establish the relationship of the murders to another similar incident in which Virginia Nyakio, the wife of Mungiki sect leader, Maina Njenga was killed.
